Religious Education
Intention
At Ling Bob School, we believe that all pupils should be able to explore the important role that religious and non-religious worldviews play in all human life. Through considering philosophical and ethical questions, students develop problem solving and critical thinking skills by considering challenging questions about meaning and purpose, beliefs about God and other forms of deity, ultimate reality, issues of right and wrong and what it means to be human. By studying a range of world religions and non-religious views, students learn to better understand others, and to value diversity, alongside developing their own views and beliefs.
In Practice
Throughout school, we follow the Agreed Syllabus for Religion and Worldviews in Kirklees, Leeds and Calderdale entitled ‘Believing and Belonging’.
Our RE curriculum is designed to engage and enthuse our children. As we are living in a world where young people are exposed to many conflicting and persuasive ideas, we deliver our RE curriculum with the intention of helping students address and challenge issues by giving them the tools to analyse and question matters for themselves and develop their confidence to articulate their own point of view.
A two-year teaching cycle is in place across school to ensure continuity for our mixed year group classes. Our whole school RE overview is based on key questions and pupils are taught to critically think about answers and solutions which enhances their understanding of the world as well as cultivating mutual respect and tolerance for others. The children in foundation stage learn about different cultures and beliefs. They are encouraged to extend their learning, taking into consideration a range of different starting points. There is clear progression from EYFS to Year 6 so that when pupils leave Ling Bob School they have a breadth of knowledge on religious education preparing them for life in the real world.
